Oscar B. Goodman,
Mayor of The City of Las Vegas

Some say his unique character and quick wit are befitting a mayor in Sin City.
Others say his irreverence and refusal to be politically correct are a
refreshing change. But whatever you say about Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, no
one can doubt the love he has for this community and his overwhelming desire to
make it even better. When he decided to run for Mayor in 1999, most said he
could never win. The local newspaper headline read "Anybody but Oscar" the day
after he filed for office. But the residents embraced Goodman's no-nonsense,
tell it like it is style, and elected him in a landslide.

He says to anyone who will listen that he's the "Happiest Mayor in the World."
What few people realize, however, is that he's also one of the hardest working.
Long hours are not a new concept for Goodman. As a renowned criminal defense
attorney, he often put in 18-hour days defending clients in front of state and
federal courts. His main job now is transforming downtown Las Vegas into an
urban village. "There is so much potential to this area," Goodman says. "We've
got so many resources at our disposal. People already love coming to Las Vegas.
Now we just have to show them that it can be an attractive place to live, build
a business and have a quality of life that is unsurpassed." In fact, Money
Magazine has recently named Las Vegas as the most desirable place to live.
